The intimate Chilton Country Pub and Hotel at Houghton-le-Spring has undergone a recent total refurbishment. Its total number of bedrooms is limited to 25, so regrettably we are unable to offer any single rooms on this holiday. However, on a more positive note, double and twin rooms are available on the ground floor.

Holiday Details

We have offered this holiday more often than any other, but having given it a break, it’s time to bring it back!

We’ll spend a whole day at the fabulous Beamish Living Museum where money is constantly being re-invested to re-create life as it was in a Durham mining community in the early twentieth century.

Our half day Catherine Cookson Tour will show you the places where Catherine found inspiration for her books. Our specialist Tour Guide will also tell you about some of the personal aspects of her life. Ladies don’t need to have read Catherine’s books to enjoy this tour. Our gentlemen also enjoy this tour because the commentary includes the Shipping connections with the Tyneside area.

The outward journey will include one of our popular farmhouse breakfast stops and a lunch stop in Wetherby. The return journey will include a coffee/early lunch stop in Harrogate.
