Best Western Hotel
Gleneagles
A modern, comfortable, chic-style hotel nestles peacefully in Wellswood, on a hillside position, overlooking Lyme Bay and just a very short walk from the Babbacombe/ Torquay border.
We thought you might like to stay at the hotel which inspired the popular television series Fawlty Towers. Fortunately Basil Fawlty is no longer involved.
Apparently when a television film crew stayed here, amongst many other things that happened, one of them was told to hold his knife & fork properly.
More than a million pounds has been spent on the property by the current owners since then.

Our outward journey will ignore the faster all-motorways route to Devon and use instead a much more attractive cross-country route that will take us past Stonehenge to a lengthy lunch stop at the pretty little Wiltshire Village of Stourton.
Prior to that we will have a briefer motorway coffee stop in Hampshire.
All being well, we will arrive at the hotel with plenty of time to unpack and make ourselves familiar with our new surroundings before our first evening meal together.
During the intervening four days we will offer you a coach excursion each day. We like to retain the flexibility to take the prevailing weather into account, but they are likely to be as follows:
| Day 1 | Dartmoor National Park Hopefully see some ponies too |
|---|---|
| Day 2 | Half day to Babbacombe Model Village Reduced price entrance charge payable on the day |
| Day 3 | Brixham & Paignton |
| Day 4 | Totnes & Dartmouth |
We will use the same cross-country route for our homeward journey on Friday. You could treat yourself to something delicious to take home from the village farm Shop at Stourton!
